God-derived diligence

From The Christian Science Journal - June 3, 2013

When you think of diligence, you might think about dedication, assiduousness, steadiness, perseverance. It’s about not giving up, but persisting and accomplishing goals. Interestingly, diligence comes from two root words meaning “to love” and “to choose.” When you love something, isn’t it natural to choose it, give it your all, and enjoy every minute of it?

That’s the way Christian Science is to me. Once I had the tiniest glimpse of God’s great love for His children—and genuinely felt it—then loving and choosing to practice the Science that had shown it to me was the most natural thing in the world. My early study of this Science of the Christ taught me how present and almighty God’s love is—sweet, strong, and sufficient to meet every human need. It’s that assurance that sparked my initial commitment. Soon I witnessed the certainty of God’s love in healings—of a spinal injury, crippling children’s diseases, and deep depression.

So it’s no wonder that I loved this Science, unhesitatingly chose it as my way of life, and became a diligent student—eager, earnest, and sincere in living and applying it consistently, as Christ Jesus taught. As I did, my diligence increased, and my confidence in God grew. Our family had many healings, and I began helping others through Christian prayer, too.
