Let's look this right in the eye

From The Christian Science Journal - August 21, 2011

That’s what a friend said to me recently when I called her and asked her to pray for me.

At the time I was out in public and feeling dizzy. The dizziness was a bit scary to me, but my friend’s comment alerted me to the fact that I could challenge both the dizziness and the fear. I reasoned that neither of these feelings was any part of God’s creation, under God’s government. Shortly I felt normal and freely continued my activity.

“Let’s look this right in the eye” has become for me an important mental stance, meaning: “Stop. Think. You don’t have to mindlessly accept whatever troubling thought comes your way.” It’s also a directive that encourages me to consider my life from a spiritual basis. It helps me challenge a negative or hurtful circumstance by recognizing that right where trouble appears, instead there is the presence and harmonious activity of God, good. And nothing else.
