Action is divine

When we look around us, all is in movement. Through its different seasons, nature offers always changing aspects. Every day, media bring us new political and economical information, on the national and international level. Progress is made in the scientific and technological fields, making them evolve at high speed. These constant changes have often a direct impact on our daily lives, bringing us sometimes good sometimes bad tidings. Many feel threatened by these events that appear out of their control, and fear for the well-being and safety of their family and of their own.

In Faust, the German poet Goethe wrote: “In the beginning was action.” Similarly, John begins his Gospel with this first sentence: “In the beginning was the Word, and the word was with God, and the Word was God... All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made” (1:1-3). The apostle positions creation as emanating from God, who is the origin of all action.

Not knowing God’s veritable nature, always perfect and good, humanity thinks that divinity is capable of allowing evil as well as expressing good. This supposed duality entrusts the destiny of the planet and of humanity to chance, and renders it dependent on mankind’s personal discoveries and acts, with all the consequences that this implies.
