Big Brother or Infinite Father-Mother?

From The Christian Science Journal - November 20, 2013

Big Brother, in the George Orwell novel 1984, is the dictator of a totalitarian state whose ruling party claims to have everyone’s interests at heart, but instead attempts to control people’s thoughts and actions.

Though party propaganda claims Big Brother exists, it's not clear in the novel if he's real or simply a fabrication of the party in order to personify it. On behalf of Big Brother, the party tries to watch everyone, primarily by making all party workers serve as spies.

The fictional regime presented in 1984 contrasts strikingly with the actual government of the one God that we read about in the Bible, watching over us to do us good. For instance, the prophet Jeremiah writes to the exiled Jews in Babylon that God will make a new covenant with them and “rejoice over them to do them good” (Jeremiah 32:41). This one God, infinite Mind, supports, strengthens, and inspires us, and, in fact, is the infinite Father-Mother, the Parent of us all. Because God is infinite, He has no opposite, and this understanding is granted by God to everyone. We can use this understanding practically by allowing nothing other than God, good, to govern our thoughts and lives.
