I AM in charge

From The Christian Science Journal - July 1, 2013

I was out with my husband, Rich, driving down a Middle Eastern highway in the country with the highest incidence of traffic fatalities in the world—our new home.
I was holding on
No—
Clenching the passenger side safety handle
Bracing for impact with every passing car
Praying—trying to hear God through my fear
When a thought broke through—
“Be still.”

I tried.
I held on.
I closed my eyes.

“Be still and know that I AM God.”
I settled on the know
Trying to believe it, to grasp it
To feel even a modicum of knowing.

Finally I sensed the still
Till a glow of peace settled in with a persistent inculcation
“I AM in charge.”

Oh! You mean all this traffic, all these cars, all these independent errant warp-speed drivers aren’t out on a minds-many cruise?

“No. I AM in the midst of them.
I AM governing; they are My people.”

For several days, weeks, months now, this thought has driven me
Through traffic and world events
To the entire universe of thought.

“Look up.
“Look to Me.
“I AM in charge.”

And that’s what I know!
