The rhythm of Soul

From The Christian Science Journal - July 21, 2014

As flowers bud and blossom naturally and bring beauty on earth, so God’s man perpetually reflects the beauty of Soul. I like to think of it as the rhythm of Soul, the perpetual unfolding of beauty. Human distractions, interruptions, and sidetracks can never mean that the rhythm of Soul has been lost, for Soul—a synonym for God in Christian Science—is omnipresent. Lately I’ve had to put that truth into action.

The passing of several loved ones, along with news headlines that included mass shootings and the plague of bullying in schools, brought me to the point of deep sorrow. Bouts of sadness and frustration descended upon me out of nowhere. There seemed to be no wind in the sails of my thought to move me forward. I kept trying to refute that I was in uncharted waters and had lost my compass—my oneness with infinite Mind.

Finally, I reached out to God with a basic plea: “Please help me.” Day after day I humbly repeated that plea, until one day in the midst of despair, these words came clearly: “God is not mocked.” I knew those words were from the Bible, and I found the passage in Galatians 6:7. As I read the words, I became aware of the entire passage: “Be not deceived; God is not mocked.” This was the truth I needed. I had been deceiving myself—and inadvertently mocking God—by thinking I could be led into darkness. That I or anyone else could be separated from our source, infinite Mind. And I could not agree with that.
