THE PIONEER

From the April 1907 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Spring said to the early violet:
"Thy work is needed here, —
Here where the dead leaves linger yet
And the earth is cold and sere."
Spring said: "Dear message-bearer,
Thy work is needed here."

Spring said to the early violet:
"Hope of the waiting land,
Earth's weary ones will now forget
The winter's severe command."
Spring said: "Dear woodland prophet,
God shields thee with His hand."

Spring said to the early violet:
"When earth awakes again,
And vale and hill are thickly set
With the buds of April's rain,
Thou then shalt see, brave pioneer,
How mighty is Love's gain."
