Testimonies of Healing

From the February 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I feel it a duty to add my testimony to those of the thousands who after great tribulations have found a God of love. Early in May, 1898, my little girl, six years old, developed a very painful eye trouble. We called in our family physician, who treated her for several weeks without benefit, but with great suffering to the child, and then he called in a specialist. After some three weeks of his treatment the eye was no better, and both physicians agreed that if the ulcer was not healed, the sight would be destroyed. We then took her to a noted specialist in another city, and after a month spent in a hospital there, we brought her home, very little improved. Our family doctor examined the eye upon our return, and told me frankly that he was much disappointed at its condition, and said if I did not apply the prescribed treatment regularly she would lose the eye.

This condition continued till about the middle of September, when my married daughter visited us. She begged us to try Christian Science, of which we then knew nothing, but were willing to grasp at anything that offered help. We communicated by letter with a practitioner, who took the case, assuring us that God would open the child's eye just as He would a rosebud, painlessly and surely. At this time the eye was shut and the eyeball covered. With all of our doubts and fears, we found God's promises true. In three months the eye was perfectly healed and the little one was ready for school. After a short period of absent treatment, the child accompanied her sister home, which brought her to the practitioner, who while she was there gave her a party, and each little one who was invited brought her roses. I shall ever feel a peculiar love for a rosebud because of this healing.

I am deeply grateful to our Leader for what her mission of self-sacrificing love has wrought for us, in bringing to us the knowledge that our every need is met by a God who is Love.—
