SPIRITUAL CONSCIOUSNESS

From the February 1911 issue of The Christian Science Journal

True consciousness is like the sea,
     Unbounded, free.
Like white ships to and fro,
Thoughts come and go
     All silently.

A beacon beameth nigh,
     For Truth shines far;
And as I raise mine eyes on high
I see Love shining in the sky,
     My polar star!

Within each thought of mine
     The Saviour rests,
Christ slumbers not, nor sleeps,
But loving vigil keeps.
     While faith he tests.

The pilot of my bark
     Is quick to save.
When errors rise and beat,
They fall beneath his feet
     Who walks the wave.
