RIGHT APPREHENSION OF LAW

From the December 1916 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Misapprehension of divine law is a serious obstacle in the way of our continuous progress, prosperity, peace, and happiness. Our problem is to remove this obstacle, and this can be accomplished through Christian Science, which is bringing to the world a right apprehension of God's law. Through its teachings we are learning that God is Mind, the divine Principle or law of all real existence, in whom we "live, and move, and have our being." That this divine law should have limitations is unthinkable, since it necessarily involves infinity .

We behold the infinitude of worlds upon worlds moving in perpetual order in obedience to this invisible law. Can, it then be possible that a law which holds this universe, from the infinitesimal to the infinite, in harmonious activity, is not one with intelligence? By understanding God as infinite Mind, Principle, cause, infinite intelligence is revealed. Intelligence unlimited includes the capacity to do all things perfectly, and this makes all things possible; for "with God all things are possible," and this is omnipotence. When we understand God as Principle or law, we perceive His omnipresence. Recognizing universal, spiritual law, omniscience or omni-science is revealed.

Thus we are taught in Christian Science to rely upon God as omnipotence, omnipresence, and omniscience; the all-powerful, all-pervading, and all-knowing Principle of the universe, and by our utilization of this law we find its adaptation to all our needs. Christian Science defines all law as the will of God; therefore we are justified in saying, "Not as I will, but as thou wilt." All perfection must be in God, Mind, law. Divine Mind includes only perfection: thus imperfection is excluded from any abiding-place in Mind. This infinite knowledge includes continuous activity or expression abounding in ever-present law.
