Testimonies of Healing

It is five years since we took up...

From the August 1918 issue of The Christian Science Journal

It is five years since we took up the study of Christian Science, and during this time it has been our only help in sickness or trouble of any kind. It has been the greatest blessing that has come into our life, for it has given us a God that we know is All-in-all, a God who is Love. Through the knowledge of the all-ness of God and the nothingness of matter, peace and harmony have come into our home, where before there was discord and faultfinding.

Many ailments have been overcome in a short time, and I would like to give two of the most wonderful demonstrations. About four months after I took up the study of Christian Science, my little daughter, twelve years old, was taken very ill. I went to see the practitioner and told her I thought the child had tonsillitis. That evening she grew worse, and all night she was very ill. On Sunday my husband insisted on my going to church, as I could do no good at home. While I was away I spoke to the practitioner about the child and her condition. In order that there might be no question about our complying with the law requiring the reporting of contagious diseases, she advised us to have a medical examination, so we called a doctor, who said it was a very bad case of diphtheria. He told me afterward that he thought the child would pass on in less than two hours. It was half past one when the physician examined her, and at five o'clock she was sitting up in a chair eating bread and milk, and entirely healed. I was more than grateful for this demonstration of the power and availability of divine Love.

In September, 1914, my eldest daughter was taken ill with typhoid fever, and to sense she was a very sick child. For days she lay unconscious, and she had two severe hemorrhages. I was alone with the children, as the father was out of the city; but the practitioner treated the child, and in three weeks she was up and about. The fever had run so high, however, that her memory had gone; even the friends she loved so dearly she did not remember. I again called the faithful practitioner, and she lovingly continued treatments, with the result that in two weeks the child was entirely healed.
