Testimonies of Healing

With grateful appreciation for the...

From the January 1922 issue of The Christian Science Journal

With grateful appreciation for the blessings which have come to me through Christian Science, I desire through my testimony to help those who may be surrounded by inharmonious conditions to see the right way.

Everything in the line of material medicine had been tried but without results, but through Christian Science, and encouraged by a practitioner whose help enabled me to strive for the attainable good with unswerving patience, although my senses often wanted to rob me of the hope of ever becoming well again, I was completely restored and am now healthier than ever before.

I was seriously ill for three years, and according to medical diagnosis suffered from pleurisy, followed, by tuberculosis of the spine and other sicknesses. For one and one-half years I was completely bedridden, and an abscess formed for which I was operated upon. After the operatic n three fistulas remained, and I was very emaciated, having lost greatly in weight. I had heard of Christian Science through a dear friend, but still remained under medical care in one hospital after another, and at last went into a sanatorium in order to take sun baths. Their medical diagnosis revealed a kidney trouble and I was to be placed on the operating table again for the removal of the kidneys. It was at this time that I arrived at the crossroads. The study of the Bible by another patient at the sanatorium caused me to study diligently, and I also commenced to study the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, which had been sent to me by my dear wife. On the day set for my transference to another hospital for a further operation, I turned to my meager understanding of omnipresent good, rejected all anxious suggestions, and, safely and alone, made the journey home, which required eleven hours. I immediately requested Christian Science treatment from a practitioner, who with much patience and love, guided me for one year through many anxious periods resulting from the testimony of the physical senses. With increasing understanding and the effort to realize the beautiful interpretation of the Lord's Prayer, as given by Mrs. Eddy on page 17 of Science and Health, my wounds closed and I received another proof of the omnipresence of divine Love. The fear of being without employment was externalized only so long as the fear remained. I have been filling a position for more than a year without ever having had to remain away from it on account of ill health, and I rejoice and thank God for the many proofs of His care which I have experienced. —
