GOD REIGNS

From the May 1925 issue of The Christian Science Journal

HOW to find surcease from the woes of mortal sense has been one of the problems of mankind throughout all ages. Both as nations and as individuals mortals have ever been striving for freedom from so-called wrong conditions, the results of their ignorance of God and His government of the universe, including man. They have generally believed war to be a necessity in securing and maintaining their national rights; but in more recent years, through an ever increasing understanding of the fatherhood of God, the brotherhood of man is becoming more apparent, and mutual friendliness and cooperation, without the horrors of war, is the hope of men of all civilized nations.

The world will be free, indeed, when all men everywhere comprehend the eternal truth that God governs and that man reflects His government. This realization will open prison doors, and enable greater freedom to be manifested than is at present apprehended. It will adjust all misunderstandings among nations, replacing hate, jealousy, tyranny, want, and woe with love, respect for the rights of others, mutual helpfulness, happiness, and plenty. Then will all men know that all have the same Principle, or Father, and that each one is governed in perfect harmony and peace by God's immutable law.

Each individual desires freedom from the seeming wrongs of human experience. When he learns in Christian Science, even in a slight degree, that his prison walls are self-constructed, and that his chains are forged by his own illusions, he manifests greater freedom. He ceases to bow down to certain so-called medical laws, knowing that God does not send sickness, sorrow, sin, or death to have dominion over him, and that these errors are but false beliefs, which do not exist in a God-governed consciousness. All the false beliefs which seemingly govern mortal existence will ultimately be destroyed by Truth, the appearance of their seeming reality beginning to vanish as soon as one understands something of the reign of Love, the kingdom of heaven.
