ALL–SEEING LOVE

From the February 1933 issue of The Christian Science Journal

JESUS the Christ came to teach that God, our Father, is divine, infinite Love, the one Mind, in which all good is resident, and to show us how to reflect Love, so that we may bring good into visible expression in our daily experiences. It is only material belief, ignorance of God as Love, that blinds us to ever present good.

In Luke we read that Jesus, when teaching in the synagogue, read in Isaiah this passage which refers to the mission of the Messiah: "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised." This specific Biblical statement, that the Messiah was to preach "recovering of sight to the blind," is in accord with Jesus' works. The Master healed numerous cases of blindness, including that of the man who was blind from his birth, and who, when he had obeyed Jesus' command to wash in the pool of Siloam, "came seeing."

Jesus was a seer; that is, he saw beyond what the human vision contemplates. All men may become seers by lifting their vision to behold the glories of the spiritual universe. Mary Baker Eddy, a seer of modern times, understood the healing love that Jesus came to teach; and through her elucidation of Christian Science she has revealed to suffering humanity the availability of the Christ, referred to in Jesus' words, "Lo, I am with you alway." Through her own knowledge of the Science of spiritual healing, and by her strict obedience to its rules, she was able to say of her own work (The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 105), "I have physically restored sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf, speech to the dumb, and have made the lame walk." Testimonies of the healing of blindness and of impaired vision through Christian Science are given in the Wednesday evening testimony meetings in Christian Science churches throughout the world, and authenticated statements of such healings are being published from time to time in The Christian Science Journal and the Christian Science Sentinel.
