GENTLENESS

From the September 1936 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Dear Father, to my waiting heart
Thy gift of gentleness bestow,
That all my actions and my words
With this sweet Christliness may glow.

The tender touch of gentleness
Is sweet as fragrance from a flower,
And heavy burdens fall away
When touched by its God-given power.

A gentle word will often bring
To some sad heart a note of cheer,
And oft a tender, gentle smile
Will scatter haunting shades of fear.

And so I ask Thee, Father, God,
That through each thought and word and tone
Thy healing gentleness may shine,
And Thine own presence thus be known.
