OBTAINING BY PRAYER

From the July 1937 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Far off may seem the unattained,
But what we hope and strive for, prayingly, is gained.

Like rainfall to revive the flower
Arrives the answer in beneficence of power.

Whenever honest prayer is made,
Men work for its fulfillment, and receive God's aid.

She who the garment's hem would touch
And made her prayer in faith, found prayer availing much.

The thief upon the cross who prayed,
Found answering hope, and faced his dying unafraid.

Men have been heroes by this power,
Because they were conformed to Rightness every hour.

Pray then, in silence of the night,
That, in the active day, your choosing may be right.

And lift in prayer your thought by day;
Then you will find safeguarding guidance yours alway.
