Prayer for Humility

From the June 1950 issue of The Christian Science Journal

May I be truly humble, Father.
This above all my prayer,
Nor let inordinate ambition rule, but rather
May I achieve fulfillment where
Only Thy precepts guide.
And if perchance
Some worldly honor beckons,
Or some little prominence
Be mine; if pride,
Or self-aggrandizement, self-will,
Beguile, oh, then, dear Father,
Make me more humble still.

Keep me compassionate and kind;
In each occurrence let me find,
Through quietly reflecting Thee,
My measure of humility.
