EFFORTLESS LIVING

From the May 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

One views with amazement the many inventions which today are presented to the world in an attempt to create greater ease in human living. Human efficiency has in a degree banished both time and space. All this, however, has not caused the struggle to exist to abate. The experience of Adam, who in the sweat of his face did eat bread, still continues. Wherein then does the remedy lie? Where may be found freedom from human toil?

Many there are who believe that more abundant resources would solve the problem; in other words, that more money would procure ease and effortless living. But this has not proved to be so. The material concept of man and the universe inaugurated the struggle. Therefore, the remedy is not in the material or the human concept, but in the divine.

Mankind's lack of success in demonstrating effortless living will continue until willingness to give up the false material belief liberates it from self-imposed bondage. Christ Jesus illustrated the effortless freedom of life in God, Spirit, and not in matter. One may gain freedom from the belief of life in matter as one follows in the footsteps of this great liberator of humanity.
