THE POWER OF A SINGLE RIGHT IDEA

From the May 1951 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In her book "Rudimental Divine Science" Mary Baker Eddy writes (p. 9), "The spiritual power of a scientific, right thought, without a direct effort, an audible or even a mental argument, has oftentimes healed inveterate diseases." Thoughtfully considered, this statement should lead us to a much fuller appraisal and understanding of spiritual ideas and their potency. It should lead us to see that God, omnipotent Mind, reveals and enforces His mandate through His idea, and that therefore we must accord to that idea all the power, activity, and effectiveness it is entitled to have.

The indestructible and permanent nature of Mind's ideas is indicated in the words of the Psalmist (Ps. 111:7, 8): "The works of his hands are verity and judgment; all his commandments are sure. They stand fast for ever and ever, and are done in truth and uprightness."

Through Christian Science we learn and understand the power of a right idea, indeed the power of every spiritual idea which we reflect. We see that every idea in Mind is purposeful, an expression of the creative cause. Observant of this, the prophet declared (Isa. 40:26), "Lift up your eyes on high, and behold who hath created these things, that bringeth out their host by number: he calleth them all by names by the greatness of his might, for that he is strong in power; not one faileth." Not one idea can fail to accomplish the divine purpose which Mind outlines.
