"When he shall appear"

I John 3:2

From the June 1960 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When the living Christ shall dawn in thought
With all the brilliance of a risen day
Upon the sky line of expectancy,
Then shall we find the image that we sought,
The likeness of his universal worth,
The vision of his normal loveliness
Unclouded by the dark and dreaming earth;
And we shall find this beauty in ourselves.
We shall be part of Love's eternity
Each one, a witness to the timeless hour,
Unblemished like the nimbus of a flower
That cannot fade.
When we compare to this
Then consciousness of body has grown dim;
We shall be unfettered from all fear,
Unoppressed and free:
the work of Love
Has been to raise us up that we might see
Life's deeper facts and know the Christ is here,
That we have found our plenitude in him.

He shall thus appear in our new bliss
Of wakened pilgrimage from some dark dream;
We shall see him as he really is.
Being the living members of his light,
Unfolded like rare blooms and shining bright—
The essence and the fullness of the Truth.
