"UNCREMATED FOSSILS" DISAPPEARING

From the January 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

An alert Christian Scientist is not confused by diversified phases of advertising which attempt to persuade people to accept various forms of matter as remedial agents. He recognizes that if he gives power to anything, he is in belief making a god of it. Acknowledging in his heart that God is the only power, he persistently prays to be protected from having his thought so manipulated that he gives power to aught but God, for God is All-in-all.

The earnest student is consistent in knowing that he cannot be mesmerized by aggressive or subtle methods of advertising. He faithfully prays daily to realize that God alone governs; and so he cannot be influenced erroneously in any direction of thought. His God-controlled thinking aids in enlightening the world.

Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, was far ahead of her time in recognizing and discarding baseless theories and mental relics of the past. She realized that regardless of how favored through the ages material theories and systems of healing had been, they must be forsaken when God is seen to be the only cause and creator. A thorough study of the Scriptures substantiated her divine logic and conclusions. She found in the Bible a wonderful record of the superiority of Spirit over matter. She agreed with Christ Jesus' words, "Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away" (Matt. 24:35).
