Testimonies of Healing

Soon after becoming interested in Christian Science...

From the September 1961 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Soon after becoming interested in Christian Science, I accepted what seemed to be an unusually good secretarial position. However, my first day at the office presented a discouraging picture. Immediately, an employee warned me that my co-workers were resentful that a person outside the company had been given my position, which was a senior one, and that I would have to train myself, because the girl I was replacing had left the company. I was told that my employer was unreasonable and difficult to work for. To add to this, the office equipment was in poor working order and the filing disorganized.

Although the task ahead of me seemed impossible, the business being completely foreign to my previous experience, I still felt I had been divinely led to the position, since I had prayed for guidance and every preliminary step had worked out harmoniously. I called a Christian Science practitioner, and with the prayerful help I was given I began to use what I knew of Science. Since the way to work out any problem is to solve it, not to turn away from it, I began to reverse the erroneous picture which had been presented to me.

On page 563 of Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy we read, "Human sense may well marvel at discord, while, to a diviner sense, harmony is the real and discord the unreal." I filled my consciousness with this truth and knew that right where there seemed to be discord, the one Mind, God, was being expressed by His idea, harmonious, loving, and intelligent man. The comforting and assuring truth that man's only purpose is to glorify God and that he reflects divine intelligence sustained me many times. I declared throughout the day that man is the idea of God, Love; he cannot be jealous, resentful, unreasonable, or incompetent.
