"STRONGER SHOULD BE OUR FAITH"

From the February 1962 issue of The Christian Science Journal

For years athletes tried to run what they called the four-minute mile, that is, to run the distance of one mile in four minutes or under, but without success. Why is this? Simply because during all those years at the back of the athletes' minds was the thought, conscious or unconscious, that the deed could not be done. Then when one athlete proved that it could be done, others had faith in themselves, and so they too were able to achieve the desired result because the limiting belief had been broken down. Now the feat is not considered remarkable. Whatever activity we are engaged in, we find that we work better and are more successful if we have faith in the undertaking and in our own God-derived ability.

Very often the only stumbling block to healing is the doubt in one's mind whether it is possible or not. Once one is able to remove that doubt, the healing is manifested. In Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, the first sentence on page 1 reads, "The prayer that reforms the sinner and heals the sick is an absolute faith that all things are possible to God,—a spiritual understanding of Him, an unselfed love."

Christian Science is by no means what could be called faith healing. This Science emphasizes the need for understanding God as All, as Spirit, Love, Principle, the only creator, and man as His perfect, spiritual image and likeness.
