A NEW COMMANDMENT

IT was the scene of the Last Supper. Judas had left, and Jesus knew that he had gone to betray him, his Master. It was at this time, conscious that a dark hour was imminent, that Jesus talked at length with the eleven. It was then that he said, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another" (John 13: 34). No self-pity, no condemnation of persons, no fear was expressed in his words; only gentleness and wisdom were evident.

Referring to this passage from the Bible, Mrs. Eddy states in "Miscellaneous Writings" (p. 292):

"Jesus, who so loved the world that he gave his life (in the flesh) for it, saw that Love had a new commandment even for him. What was it?
