"He stirreth up the people"

From the April 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

As God's infinite idea, the Christ, Truth, begins to appear to human thought, forcing it to a change of base, there often follows a mental stir, or chemicalization. As material thoughts give way to more spiritually enlightened concepts, the counterfeit mortal mind often shows a recalcitrant resistance. This chemicalization is the war between Spirit and matter which was perceived by the prophet Isaiah.

Mrs. Eddy writes, "In Isaiah we read: 'I make peace, and create evil. I the Lord do all these things;' but the prophet referred to divine law as stirring up the belief in evil to its utmost, when bringing it to the surface and reducing it to its common denominator, nothingness." Science and Health, p. 540; To Spirit, God, and to the real man, His image and likeness, there is no war; but to the mortal so-called man this war is a reality until mortal consciousness completely yields up its dream of existence.

Christian Science brings about a resurrection of thought which makes us aware of the great fact that Life is not in matter but is Spirit, God. Our Leader reminds us, "The effect of this Science is to stir the human mind to a change of base, on which it may yield to the harmony of the divine Mind." p. 162;
