A positive and correct statement of Christian Science when prayerfully made, even though not fully understood, often brings healing. I have had wonderful proof of this.
When an internal growth became visibly evident and very painful, Christian Science was introduced to me, and I borrowed a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, from a Christian Science Reading Room. I knew nothing about Christian Science or its Discoverer and Founder, Mrs. Eddy. I had attended a Sunday School as a child for a short time only, and as an adult I rarely went to church. I was not interested in what was taught. After reading Science and Health for about a week, I was asked if I would like to talk with a practitioner. I made an appointment and went to the office, not knowing what to expect; but I told her immediately that I was not interested in religion and that I did not believe in doctors. The practitioner just looked at me and smiled and started to talk about Principle and Mind and Love and promised to help me. She asked me to continue to read Science and Health. This I did, and then I found myself attending a Christian Science Sunday service, buying a Christian Science Quarterly, and starting to read the Lesson-Sermon, arising very early in order to study it before going to work.
The practitioner helped me whenever I asked her to, but I did not have continuous treatment. The difficulty did not get any better; but I was becoming very much interested in finding out what God is, and I wanted to know more about this Science. I knew that when I understood more about it I would be healed. I read in II Timothy (2:15), "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
