Business Before Pleasure

From the September 1966 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The businessman or businesswoman must put business interests before personal amusements in order to achieve any success. In the same way the student of Christian Science must put God first by consecrated daily study of this religion if he is to succeed in reaping any of the healing benefits to be gained from a demonstrable knowledge of the Supreme Being and of man, made in His likeness.

Many of us in the world today would like to know more of God, and all of us are in need of some type of healing. We must answer the irresistible call to work out our salvation. As Paul urged: "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure."Phil.2:12, 13;

To follow this advice in an orderly fashion, we must put our study and practice of Christian Science before all else. Studying the Bible and the textbook, Science and Health by Mrs. Eddy, and her other writings, as well as reading the authorized Christian Science periodicals, is an indispensable step in our God-given business. It is also important, in fact vitally necessary, that we strive to see ourselves and all others as children of God—His spiritual ideas—and daily handle completely and effectively every erroneous belief that is presented to us.
