HUMILITY IN BAPTISM

From the April 1967 issue of The Christian Science Journal

When Jesus came from Galilee
To John to be baptized,
The Baptist was inspired to see
His holy thought and realized
His innate grace and purity.

The Jordan River gently flowed
As Jesus claimed the cleansing rite,
The deep humility he showed
Forthwith engendered spiritual light
To shine upon his earthly road.

The heavens opened from above,
The Spirit of God, with radiance spun,
Descended on him like a dove
And Jesus heard, "This is my . . . Son."
Acknowledgment of him by Love.

We, too, submerged before God's throne
In true humility of heart,
May see our heavens brighter grown
And hear an inner voice impart,
"Your Father claims you as His own."
