From the January 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

The election of David E. Sleeper, C. S. B., as a Director of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, Massachusetts, has been announced by The Christian Science Board of Directors.

Mr. Sleeper, who had been serving as Executive Administrator of The Mother Church, became a Director on October 24, 1969, succeeding Thomas E. Hurley, C. S. B. Mr. Hurley passed on in Boston on October 20. He had been a member of The Christian Science Board of Directors since 1953.

Mr. Hurley began the study of Christian Science at the age of fifteen in California, where he had been taken by his family for reasons of health. Healed of deafness, he later attended Thacher Preparatory School in Ojai, California, and graduated from Yale University. He joined The Mother Church in 1919 and three years later had class instruction.
