The world's need and the mother church's response

The Crisis of Faith

From the August 1970 issue of The Christian Science Journal

[Christian Science, through the outreach of The Mother Church and its activities, will fill for humanity the aching void created by the secularization of modern society. It will prove that only through scientific religion can the deeper longings of mankind be satisfied.]

Millions of people have lost faith in what they used to believe in. This has brought a great moral crisis in our society. We need to understand this crisis, for such understanding throws new light on the wonderful mission and opportunity of Christian Science.

In this century, science and technology have become virtually a system of mass faith. People have pinned their hopes on physics for the explanation of matter, on biology for the explanation of life, on medicine for health, on psychology and psychiatry for the explanation of man and mind, on technological invention for general well-being and happiness.
