Currents That Mold Our Lives

From the August 1973 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever thought how important currents are? There are currents of water, currents of air, currents of thought, and so on. They mold our lives; they mold history.

Currents of water, for example, have carved the Grand Canyon into light and color of indescribable beauty. Currents of water flow through lakes and keep them from stagnation. They flow over parched ground and bring fertility and harvest. Waterfalls drop into lush green valleys; brooks sing in the forests. Currents of wind clear the atmosphere; they dissipate smog and fog and clear the air of pollution.

Currents of thought underlie all social change. They determine fashion; they create the mental atmosphere of a country, a community, a home. They shape our laws, outline a nation's health code, determine its social order.
