Highest ministry: the public practice of Christian Science

From the September 1979 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Healing, a condition of salvation, is inherent in the theology of Christian Science. Healing includes dropping off whatever is unreal, unlike God and His creation, for the real.

Christ Jesus taught: "As ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give." Matt. 10:7, 8; And Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered and founded Christian Science, assures us, "It is possible,—yea, it is the duty and privilege of every child, man, and woman,— to follow in some degree the example of the Master by the demonstration of Truth and Life, of health and holiness." On the same page she adds: "Hear these imperative commands: 'Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect!' 'Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature!' 'Heal the sick!'"Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 37;

Individual practice might be likened to obeying Jesus' command to cast the net on the right side, and the public practice to leaving the nets. Individual practice usually leads quite naturally to the public practice. To be ready for this we must strive for perfection in whatever we are presently doing.
