No victim, no victimizer

From the October 1983 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Have you ever felt yourself a victim of another's thoughtless act? Or perhaps have you yourself unintentionally injured someone? Having given or taken offense, you no doubt were sorry afterward.

Why, then, did it happen?

There is no real reason for senseless acts or thoughtless behavior. "The history of error is a dream-narrative," writes Mrs. Eddy in Science and Health. "The dream has no reality, no intelligence, no mind; therefore the dreamer and dream are one, for neither is true nor real."Science and Health, p. 530. To deal Christianly and scientifically with the senseless acts that victimize mankind, we need an understanding of the true order of creation. To identify man as limited, sinning, cruel, an irrational mortal, perpetuates the mortal dream and is ultimately self-destructive. We cannot properly see in man any quality we could not properly identify with God. Man is God's innocent likeness, motivated by God to express His own love. We read in Science and Health, "Man and woman as coexistent and eternal with God forever reflect, in glorified quality, the infinite Father-Mother God."Ibid., p. 516.
