Evidence, true or false?

From the September 1985 issue of The Christian Science Journal

At one time or another, we have all accepted what we thought were facts and reached certain conclusions only to find out later that the "facts" were wrong— and so was our reasoning! After we corrected the information we had been relying on, we got the right answer. Even a simple experience of this type shows that if we are to reach right conclusions, the evidence must be right.

This is especially important in regard to situations such as ill health or home or business problems. If the evidence presented can be proved wrong, the conclusions we have accepted can be rejected, and then well being is restored. This is what Christian Science enables us to demonstrate. Over and over again it has been proved that when we reject fallacious evidence and replace it with the truth of being, the human condition is corrected.

How do we detect incorrect evidence? By seeing more clearly what is true. Because truth always emanates from God, our first need is to understand Him better. As we search the Scriptures, we reinforce our knowledge of Deity. We discern more clearly His ever-presence, omnipotence, and unlimited goodness. We see that His creation is perfect and that He exercises complete control over all. Grasping these basic facts, we correctly conclude that any evidence not conforming to God's perfection and goodness is false and, in truth, without effect. This enables us to reject the wrong concept and replace it with what is divinely true. From this we draw the correct conclusions and harmony prevails.
