When healing is delayed

From the August 1986 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What can we do if a healing does not yet appear even though we have begun to perceive the spiritual fact that in reality all is well? If pain and discordant conditions continue, it may be time to deal more specifically with mortal mind and its claims.

Since immortal Mind, God, is infinite and the only reality, its supposed opposite, mortal mind, can only be a false belief. Nevertheless, we cannot ignore mortal mind, which claims that we suffer, are sick, or experience discord. We challenge these false claims through prayer. "To whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are,"Rom. 6:16. said Paul the Apostle. And this statement still applies.

The claims of mortal mind would deceive us by presenting man as material instead of spiritual. They would obscure our true being as the image of God. Spiritual healing requires that we learn to reject mortal mind's lies and to demonstrate the truth. To do this, one of our first steps should be to examine our thoughts and motives.
