Peace and Principle

From the May 1988 issue of The Christian Science Journal

True peace on earth is the result of the manifestation of divine Principle, God, in the affairs of mankind. Harmony in human affairs, to be lasting, must be based on the laws of God, including the law of justice.

A state of peace derived from an overbearing authoritarianism and maintained by coercion is peace in name only. It is like that described by the Roman historian Tacitus when he wrote,"... when they make a desert, they call it peace."Tacitus, Agricola, sec. 30.

Peace—peace of mind in the individual, peace between groups of people and among nations, peace even in outer space—cannot be separated from its infinite, divine source, the one great cause we know as God, or good.
