Sexual standards and spiritual commitment

From the November 1990 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A man was having a private struggle. The world around him suggested that there was really nothing all that wrong with the sensual thoughts he was having and the actions these thoughts were prompting. Society was giving him the message that he ought to indulge his sexual impulses, because not to do so would be unnatural.

But his conscience was bothering him. When he'd thought things through from a spiritual perspective, he'd seen difficult relationship problems worked out, and significant physical healings.

He wanted to commit himself to something that would make a difference—something that would help others. That's why he knew this private battle was important and couldn't be put off. The sensuality pulling at him was undermining the spirituality that he knew was native to his real identity as God's son.
