Prayer that goes beyond our own doorstep

From the October 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In what has been called "the global village," where people and nations are rapidly becoming more and more interconnected, the possibility that multinational conditions will suddenly affect our own lives has dramatically increased. This represents both a challenge and a blessing to those who would bring Christian healing to the various troubles facing mankind today. Rather than confine their prayers to their own immediate community, Christians are charged by their Master to spread the gospel worldwide.

The impact of global affairs on the individual was brought home to me a few years ago when several international incidents greatly increased the prospect of terrorist acts aimed at citizens of my country and of the country where my husband and I were to spend two weeks. There was much talk in the media about possible danger and about those who were canceling their travel plans. After checking with authorities, I found there were no official warnings against travel in the area where we would be.

I was concerned, however, and I naturally turned to the Bible and the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, to learn more about the true nature of God and the universe under His government.
