Our contribution to peace

From the August 1991 issue of The Christian Science Journal

What can one Christian Scientist do to strengthen his Church so that it can help the world and bring peace to it? As Mrs. Eddy, who founded this Church, enunciated, "The Principle of Christian Science demonstrates peace." The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany, p. 279.

Those of us who have united with the Church of Christ, Scientist, expect to demonstrate the Principle of Christian Science. Our fellow members expect this of us, too. In fact, growth in Christian character develops spiritual qualities in us.

Ungodlike characteristics need to be surrendered in order to make progress. Although this will be a struggle at times, the sooner we subdue these traits, the more peace we experience. Our contribution to peace in church is never measured by whether other members love us. Rather, it is seen more in the degree that we love them. It is essential that we ourselves reflect the Love that is God because, as we do, we are throwing our weight on the side of peace.
