REPORT ON SPECIAL MEETING

Science and Health and its relationship to lectures

From the November 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A series of five special meetings was held on Tuesday following this year's Annual Meeting of The Mother Church, to consider the transforming impact of the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The meetings looked specifically at the relationship of Science and Health to five Church Manual-based activities.

The panel members for the meetings on Science and Health and its relationship to lectures were Jon G. Harder, C.S.B., of Bristol, Rhode Island, Chairman of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Martyn M. Auret, C.S.B., of Johannesburg, Republic of South Africa, and Ulrich Peschke, C.S.B., of Ltibeck, Germany, members of the Board of Lectureship.

The purpose of a Christian Science lecture, the meetings brought out, is to make Christian Science known. It is to proclaim the coming of the Comforter, the Divine Science that declares the allness and omnipotence of God and man's perfection as His pure, spiritual reflection. Mrs. Eddy said in a letter to a student,"...God has given to this age 'Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,' to elucidate His Word." Miscellaneous Writings, p. 159. The lecturer strives to lead listeners into the very book that already shelters the world within its pages.
