The star of prophecy—still lighting the way to Christ

From the December 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A prophecy in the book of Numbers states that "there shall come a Star out of Jacob."  Num. 24:17. According to Christian interpretation, this prophecy foretold the star that heralded the birth of Christ Jesus.

This star led the shepherds and the wise men to find Jesus. The shepherds had great skills in watchfulness. The wise men had a searching, receptive quality of thought that allowed them to see and follow the star.

According to various scientific theories, the star could have been a conjunction of planets, a comet, or a nova. Possibly it was a combination of all three that shone so brightly. Yet there were people in the same location, including King Herod, who did not behold the star. Why? Because a materially-minded mentality could not discern the revelation of Christ, Truth.
