Silent prayer

From the May 1993 issue of The Christian Science Journal

A friend of mine, experiencing severe pain, called for help from a Christian Science practitioner in the early hours one morning. My friend is a Christian Scientist, and the help she was seeking was prayer.

She said the practitioner immediately tried to allay her fear, talking to her about the spiritual basis in Christian Science not only for conquering pain but for her actual exemption from all discord as the offspring of the one perfect Maker, God.

Despite all that the practitioner shared with her over the following few minutes, she was still fearful and in tears. The practitioner's deep desire was to know what more could be said to help. What came to him immediately was the idea that she didn't need more words. She needed silent prayer.
