Business: ours or our Father's?

From the January 1995 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Are you worried about your business? Your job? Your career? Actually, your security lies in recognizing the stability of your heavenly Father's business. His business has always prospered, never diminished, never operated at a loss, never failed. That is actually your business.

What is the Father's business? To govern all creation through His perfect law, the law of Love. Our business is to yield to His law, expressing the divine nature in all that we think and say and do. God's law is illustrated by all things working together to God's glory, and His demand and supply of good are seen to be in perfect balance. If conditions appear otherwise in our experience, they do so to the degree that we individually admit to the presence of other minds, rather than to the oneness and allness of the divine Mind. What seems apparent as lack of activity and progress is, like worry about it, a product of mortal thought, not of the Mind that was in Christ Jesus, which Paul said we must claim for ourselves. See Phil. 2:5

So when our work seems threatened, the need is for vigorous corrective thinking—that is, for prayer based on a recognition of God's promise that man, His own image and likeness, is governed by Him and, therefore, has dominion over all the earth. This dominion is not the power to subjugate creation but is rather our God-given ability to think and act rightly in all circumstances. It certainly includes all that occupies such a vital part of our experience as our business affairs.
