Poems

The enlightened heart

From the October 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

"The time for thinkers has come. Truth, independent of doctrines and time-honored systems, knocks at the portal of humanity."Mary Baker Eddy, Science and Health, p. vii.

Today Truth knocked and called my name—
Dear child, awake! Arise!
You don't have to listen to error's pleas
Or be caught up in error's lies.

You and I know who you are—
Mine own image, reflection, idea.
Have not I always said to you,
"Be not afraid, I am here"?

Then, as with Saul, the light shone forth,
It compassed my very being.
As Paul, I awoke, I arose, I walked
Without help—clearly seeing!

And so, my friend, when you hear the knock,
Be alert to fling wide the door.
Let your consciousness fill with the spirit of Truth—
Spread out your wings and soar!
