Testimonies of Healing

From the November 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

In raising two children, my husband and I have relied entirely on Christian Science treatment to solve various problems that have come up, including deep wounds, hearing difficulties, nervous breakdown, broken arms, automobile accidents, stomach troubles, migraine headaches, and lack of supply. I have also experienced harmonious childbirth and the healing of strained family relationships.

One of the greatest challenges of my experience, however, came ten years ago with the sudden passing of our twenty-five-year-old son. My natural response to adversity is to rely on God for healing, but there were many obstacles to overcome along the way—especially an overwhelming sense of deep sadness and separation.

I found myself asking how and why this had happened, but human reasoning offered no satisfactory or comforting answers. It soon became clear that I was looking in the wrong direction for healing. I also recognized that I had to learn to uphold the spiritual identity of this dear one and to let the Christ, Truth, lift me to the eternal fact that God is the only Life. In Science and Health we read: "In Science man is the offspring of Spirit. The beautiful, good, and pure constitute his ancestry. His origin is not, like that of mortals, in brute instinct, nor does he pass through material conditions prior to reaching intelligence. Spirit is his primitive and ultimate source of being; God is his Father, and Life is the law of his being" (p. 63).
