From the June 1997 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I am a new student of Christian Science. When I don't quite follow what I am reading, I turn to my copies of The Christian Science Journal for help—and especially to the testimonies at the back of each issue. They have convinced me that Christian Science is what I have been searching for all my life. This Science has changed my way of thinking and living, and has protected me in my work as a policeman. My constant wish is to know God better through what Mary Baker Eddy calls "the spiritual understanding of prayer." She makes it clear "Seeking is not sufficient. It is striving that enables us to enter" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 10).

In two excellent articles in the Journal, the Editor of The Christian Science Monitor, David Cook, has called our attention to the need for support for the newspaper. Sometimes the criticism is made that the Monitor and the Christian Science periodicals are "not like they used to be." Yes, they are certainly different in appearance, style of writing, and subject matter. Didn't Mrs. Eddy insist that these publications be kept "abreast of the times"? [See Manual of The Mother Church, Art. VIII, Sect. 14.] How can we afford not to subscribe to and read these important publications!
