Poems

Always gentled

From the November 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

You startle with gentle messages
my thoughts...not yet glimpsing Your love
as impartial, unending, all-powerful;
a promised affection...with grace.

You redress with gentle firmness
my actions...often yoked with self-will.
Yet still with a clear sense of purpose
the heart to seek Soul...as its base.

You heal with gentle forgiveness
my longings...to loose "mortal" man;
demanding a pure witness for Your child,
consistent with Christ...face to face.

You lift with gentle persuasion
my prayers...brimming over with praise
to practice Your law—through Christ-healing—
perfection right now...in this place.

You fill through Your care, divine Spirit,
my days...seeing man as Your child;
free of matter, alive in your likeness,
always gentled...and in your embrace.
