Letters

From the February 1998 issue of The Christian Science Journal

I was so pleased to read the poem "Wide enough" in the August issue of The Christian Science Journal. Last September, I opened an exhibition of twenty-one large computer prints based on three themes—Grass, Sky, and Prisms. Rainbows figure greatly in the work and have been a recurring theme in my artwork for many years. For me, the poem was so apposite, and so appropriate for the occasion.

I notice on the cover of some issues of The Christian Science Journal there's a small banner that says "Directory of Christian Science healers." I know that Mary Baker Eddy used the words healer and practitioner interchangeably, and the directory section of the Journal mentions church services and Reading Rooms, nurses, practitioners and teachers, and so forth, but not healers. Would it make sense to pick one term—either practitioners or healers—and carry it from the cover into the directory pages, too? Or at least to explain in the index that healers=practitioners?
