Easter then and now

From the April 2004 issue of The Christian Science Journal

Simply because we know what happened, Easter is much different for you and me than it was for Mary Magdalene and Jesus' other followers.

Two days, as we measure them (three as they counted), after Jesus' crucifixion, Mary Magdalene went to his tomb. See John 20:1–18 .

We know that the resurrection happened, but at the point in time, just before Mary discovered that the stone was taken away from Jesus' tomb, that fact was not so obvious. The Gospels tell us that the disciples were afraid that they, too, were facing danger from the crowds and the authorities.
