A message for the world

From the January 2006 issue of The Christian Science Journal

DON'T TELL CHRISTINE DRIESSEN TO SLOW DOWN. Not with all that's on her plate these days. Christine, a Christian Science practitioner, teacher, and lecturer, has served The First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, as an attorney in the Legal and Legislative Department of the Committee on Publication, Manager of Sunday Schools and Youth Activities, and Superintendent of The Mother Church Sunday School.

Today, as Manager of The Christian Science Board of Lectureship, Christine oversees 60 lecturers from across the globe as they fan out in community centers, academic settings, churches, conferences, hospitals, even public parks, to bring the message of Christian Science to a world thirsty for spiritual answers to life's most pressing issues: disease, terrorism, poverty, war, racism, and all kinds of conflicts, both in countries and in homes. "But we're Christian Science practitioners first," Christine says of herself and the other lecturers. "We're healers, and lecturing is part of our practice."

Over the last few years, the Board of Lectureship has joined with branches of The Mother Church to share Christian Science with hundreds of thousands of people, many new to this Science. Today, lecturers are touching lives in places as far-flung as Cuba, Puerto Rico, Africa, Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe, Indonesia, India, Australia, New Zealand, Asia, and throughout North America. "We've been growing so much in our understanding of how to share this unique metaphysical system of healing as we've deepened our understanding of the universal nature of the Christ-love and its role in healing," says Christine. "We're finding that the public isn't satisfied with general spirituality. They want something deeper, more reliable."
